As we tend to do, The Lassie Foundation has been taking a break for a while. Various personal developments have made things hard for us to get together lately. Our latest album "Face Your Fun" has been not only a reflection of the times in which it was written, but also a slightly different omen for the times we are in now.
We've always been a band that never adheres to the music business' schedule, simply because we don't work like that. When the music comes, then we follow it wherever it takes us. The music business generally requires a certain kind of consistency, and we've usually said "fuck you" to that--not out of rebellion, but rather because we think making music should be a natural thing. Whenever the music happens, it happens. No release schedule or marketing plan will dictate when we write or when we play--for us, it must come naturally. Otherwise, where's the fun? Where's the delight in making the best music we can make? Where's the excitement of live concerts?
So much of the music business is forced product under the guise of inspiration. Our favorite artists will tell us that their latest record is the best they've ever done, although in the back of their minds they know they had to get that product on the shelves in order to make their rent. We prefer to be motivated by inspiration rather than by market forces.
At the same time, we apologize for not being as active as some would like. So we humbly ask for your patience as we decide what our next step will be.
Undoubtably, there will be music. Who will make it? We're not sure. When will it arrive? No promises. What's the average speed of an African swallow? I don't know. Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!
